Television Production with WPTV

Students in this class utilize digital art and design software to run a television broadcast of the school's daily announcements.  This show is published to a private YouTube channel and watched across campus while being available to only in district Google accounts.

Our WPTV studio allows students access to a full green screened area stocked with various microphones, lights, 4K cameras, and a teleprompter.  Students utilize the Open Broadcasting System software to create their broadcasts.  They also utilize Final Cut Pro and Motion 5 to create their graphics and video transitions.

Students also learn about storyboarding and writing scripts to help improve their storytelling abilities.  Projects include Public Service announcements, Commercials, Movie Trailers, Music Videos, and How-To videos.

Video Editing with Final Cut Pro

We utilize Apple's Final Cut Pro in this class because of its ease of use and simple user interface.  Students learn about timeline editing, creating transitions, titles and adding music and sounds to their videos.  Students will also learn how to layer videos, trim, cut and extend clips in the timeline. They also are provided Adobe Creative Cloud accounts if they prefer to learn Adobe's Premiere software on their own.

Special Effects and Animation with Apple Motion

As an extension to Final Cut Pro students will utilize Apple Motion to create animations and special effects.  This includes keyframe editing, cycle animation, and particle emitters.  This software is also 3D capable allowing the students to build a 3D environment for their animations.  All projects created in motion seamlessly integrate into Final Cut Pro for full customization.  Examples of these projects include creating a fire breathing Godzilla, laser shooting space ships and flying through moving 3D text.
